Reaching New Heights

What started out as a small piece of my personal project, quickly turned into one of my biggest cultural experiences on Berlin this trip. All types of art are a huge part of Berlin; Graffiti is plastered on almost every wall along every street. However, I was lucky enough to experience a more underground part of the art genre- music.

Ponte Pilas is a fresh, new band that just began in February 2017. The band consists of Calum (my subject- from Scotland) and three other band members who are actually from Ecuador. What I found interesting was that Morgan and I were the only people there who were NOT from Ecuador (besides Calum.) Punk rock is a huge part of the Latin/ South American music scene, in this case Ecuador.

After the concert, I was sad to find out that the band does not have any of their music posted online (not even YouTube) for listening, but are hoping to come out with an EP soon. Despite their lack of PR with their music, the crowd jammed and danced to every song, and some even knew the words? They sound a lot like the band JET.

The even took place at a small bar called PrivatClub, which is where smaller bands like Ponte Pilas are able to perform and get their name out there. The following night, Morgan and I went back to see another performance!
